It is safe to say that I have made more pictures at weddings than in any other capacity as a professional photographer. Despite that, I do not think of myself as a "wedding photographer," but rather as a photojournalist hired to document one of the greatest days in person's life. I love that it serves as a great test of one's skill and versatility as a photographer, since you have to switch between making intimate portraits of individuals to group pictures of huge extended families. Throw in a landscape or two highlighting the event space, lots of detail images depicting the day, and finally you can't miss the best man when he breaks into the worm on the dance floor. Having the ability to predict the weather to the minute, read people's thoughts and emotions and react to ever changing lighting conditions is helpful too.
