Moved is a proof-of-concept piece that features 24 3D printed figures inside a spinning zoetrope placed upon and being driven by a record player featuring the work of my collaborator, Dr. Andy Hudson. Also, it’s a bass clarinet, not a saxophone. Andy would want that to be clear.
The concept for the piece centers on the multitude of connections that music and animation share, from their foundations in timing and rhythm, to the way that both entered into homes at roughly the same time and in roughly the same way on these round, spinning devices, the zoetrope and the phonograph.
Work on a larger piece with a wider narrative scope is in the works. The production rendering below shows the goal of 24 full building facades with six animated characters.
