Keys is an interactive installation celebrating music and animation’s multitude of shared connections.
This piece is a collaboration with UNCG School of Music Faculty Dr. Annie Jeng. In our conversations, Annie and I connected over the shared experience of the artist, whether in the field of animation or music, and wanted to create a work that reflected the time and toil needed to hone one’s skills and finally discover that illusive creative spark.
Modeled after what we know of Reynaud’s design for the Theatre Optique, Keys occupies 16 ft of wall space to hold a 34 ft animation strip that projects it’s 18 second looping short onto the face of a defunct iPhone while spinning in sync with a modern record player with Annie’s five-minute musical score.
